Injury Prevention Assessment

Injury Prevention Assessment

At Empowerment Physical Therapy, we offer injury prevention assessments using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS)—a proven method to identify movement imbalances, mobility limitations, and stability issues that was created by world famous physical therapist Gray Cook as a means to evaluate an individual’s mobility & stability.

This 7-part screen helps us detect potential risks before they lead to pain or injury. Whether you’re active, returning to exercise, or simply want to stay strong and independent, our movement analysis can help improve function and reduce your risk of injury.

Did You Know?

  • Studies show that movement imbalances between the left and right sides of the body can make athletes up to 11 times more likely to get injured.

  • NFL data revealed that players with poor movement quality were over 40% more likely to land on the injured reserve list.

Identifying these issues early through movement screening can help reduce injury risk and improve long-term performance.

Who Is the Movement Screen For?

The Functional Movement Screen is ideal for active individuals who want to correct muscle imbalances and lower their risk of future or recurring injuries. This system has been trusted by a wide range of groups, including first responders, corporate wellness programs, the U.S. Armed Forces, and professional sports teams.

How Long Does It Take & What Do We Do?

Sessions run approximately 30-45 minutes in length. During that time you will be asked to perform a series of simple movement patterns in order to assess your function. Based on your results, you will be given a specific 6-8 weeks program to correct your dysfunction & imbalance. Your movement will be reassessed at midpoint and at the end of the program. The exercises in the program take approximately 10 minutes per day, and require minimal space and little to no equipment.

What Happens After The Program?

It is recommended that you come in for a “check-up” every 6 months, similar to your dental visits. If you should need additional assistance, options can be made available for continuing one-on-one sessions.
